Trailhead 2: Teaching the Subjects You Dread, Begins

AI for the Non-Technical Homeschool Parent · Module 2 Kickoff.

What You Built

In Module 1, you changed how you see your role, opened an AI assistant, and learned the Night-Before Method. You’ve already used it on at least one real topic. That method is the engine for everything in this module.

What’s Coming

This module applies the method to the four subjects homeschool parents worry about most. Lesson 4 shows you how to turn what you learned into a lesson at your child’s level. Lesson 5 covers math you forgot or never learned. Lesson 6 brings science into your kitchen. Lesson 7 covers foreign languages and writing.

You don’t have to do every lesson in order if one subject is more urgent. Start with the one keeping you up at night.

Why This Matters

The subjects we dread are often the ones we quietly shortchange. We spend a little less time on them, pick the easiest curriculum, or hope our kids will pick them up later. That’s not a character flaw. It’s what anyone does with a subject that makes them feel small.

AI changes the math, so to speak. When you can learn a topic in fifteen minutes and get a lesson plan in two more, the dreaded subject stops being a wall and becomes just another lesson.

A Few Ways To Talk To It Well

Tell it your child’s age and what they already know. “My 12-year-old knows multiplication but not fractions” gets a much better answer than “teach fractions.”

Tell it what your child loves. A lesson on ratios that uses baking, Minecraft, or horses will land better than a generic one.

Ask it to ask you questions. Try “Before you make the lesson, ask me three questions about my child.”

Don’t settle for the first answer. Say “simpler,” “shorter,” “more hands-on,” or “that won’t work for my son, he hates writing.”

One Thing Before You Turn The Page

Look back at the confidence number you wrote down in the Introduction. Now pick the one subject in this module you most want to improve, and write down one specific thing you’d like to be able to teach by the end of the module. For example: “I want to teach my son how to solve two-step equations without panicking.”

Looking Ahead

Lesson 4 starts where the Night-Before Method ends: you understand the topic, so now let’s make it a lesson.
