A mom is certain something clicked for her daughter a few months back — a real moment, the kind she meant to remember forever. She can’t recall what it actually was anymore. Just the feeling that it happened, and a small ache that she let it slip away.
The noticing was never the problem. Nothing caught it before it faded.
You don’t need a system for this. You need a catch net — something so low-friction you’ll actually use it in the thirty seconds after the moment happens, before it’s gone. A running note in your phone. An index card taped inside a cabinet door. One page in the back of a notebook you already carry. The format doesn’t matter. What matters is that writing it down costs you almost nothing.
When something happens — a question your child asks unprompted, a thing they figure out on their own, a moment they surprise you — jot down the date and one plain sentence. Not an analysis. Just what happened, in your own words, while it’s still fresh.
This isn’t a rubric and it isn’t a Blueprint. It’s smaller than both of those, on purpose. You’re not organizing anything yet. You’re just making sure the raw material doesn’t disappear before you have a reason to use it.
That reason is coming. Book Two’s Child Blueprint will eventually ask you to build a real, structured picture of how your child learns — and when it does, you won’t be starting with a blank page. You’ll be handing over months of real moments you already caught, instead of trying to reconstruct them from memory.
