Introduction: Why You Don’t Have to Know It to Teach It

AI for the Non-Technical Homeschool Parent · Course Introduction.

Who This Course Is For

If you’ve ever opened a chemistry book, an algebra workbook, or a Spanish curriculum and felt your stomach drop, this course is for you. You love homeschooling. You know your children better than anyone. But somewhere along the way, a subject showed up that you never learned, or learned so long ago it’s gone.

I’ve been there more times than I can count. Over two decades of homeschooling, our family hit subjects I didn’t feel ready to teach. What I learned is that you don’t have to be the expert. You have to be the guide.

What This Course Will Do For You

This course shows you how to use an AI assistant as a patient tutor for yourself first and your children second. You’ll learn tomorrow’s lesson the night before, turn it into something your child can understand, and let your kids use AI in a way that makes them think harder instead of less.

You don’t need to be a tech person. If you can send a text message, you can do everything in this course.

How The Course Works

There are three modules and ten lessons. Module 1 builds your confidence and gives you one simple method. Module 2 applies that method to the subjects parents dread most: math, science, languages, and writing. Module 3 makes it safe and sustainable, with lessons on teaching kids to use AI well, catching AI mistakes, and fitting it into your week.

Each module ends with a Waypoint, a short checkpoint where you look back at what you built and collect the prompts you’ll keep using. Read in order, at your own pace. There’s no deadline and no grade.

What You’ll Need

You’ll need a phone, tablet, or computer, and one free AI assistant. Common choices include ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, and Copilot. Any of them will work for this course. Lesson 2 walks you through getting started, so don’t worry about choosing yet.

You’ll also want a notebook. We’ll call it your Prompt Notebook. It’s where you’ll keep the prompts that work for your family.

A Word About AI

AI is a tool, not a teacher. It can explain, quiz, and brainstorm at nine o’clock at night without ever getting tired of your questions. It can also be confidently wrong. Throughout this course, you stay in charge. You decide what your children learn, you check what matters, and you bring the relationship no tool can replace.

One Thing Before You Turn The Page

Write down the one subject you dread teaching most. Next to it, rate your confidence from 1 to 10, where 1 means “I’d rather hide” and 10 means “Bring it on.” Fold the page and put it somewhere safe. You’ll come back to that number at the end of each module.

Looking Ahead

Lesson 1 starts with the most important shift in this whole course: you don’t have to know it to teach it.
